STORY MUSEUM (21)
In an exciting development for the West End, it was agreed in 2010 that Rochester House, a Victorian building on Pembroke Street, would become the new home of the Story Museum. The Museum has existed online since 2005, running storytelling programmes and events in schools, however a £2.5m donation from an anonymous private benefactor means it can now establish a permanent Oxford home.
The Museum, whose patrons are children's authors Philip Pullman, Michael Morpurgo and Jacqueline Wilson, is set to become a world-class centre for stories and storytelling in all its forms, attracting as many as 100,000 visitors a year.
A major campaign was launched in late 2010 to raise the £11m needed to transform the building, which aims to open in 2014 to coincide with Oxford's bid to become Unesco’s World Book Capital.
