WHAT IS OXFORD'S WEST END?

Oxford's West End is only now beginning to exist as a recognised place. It is an area of the city that is under-exploited and does not live up to Oxford's outstanding international reputation. Since the rapid building development of the 1960s, this area has become increasingly neglected - a shadow of what it once was: the bustling heart of the ancient city of Oxford.

Stretching from the railway station at its north-west corner across to Cornmarket and down to Folly Bridge in the south-east, the West End encompasses an area rich in hidden assets and ripe with potential for the development of a new civic and cultural quarter. Through collaboration between key stakeholders, the West End regeneration will create an environment that properly reflects the area's historical and social value, establishing it as a worthy focus for city and tourist life alike.
