THE VISION FOR THE FUTURE
Oxford's West End is set to become a vibrant city quarter where shops, restaurants and offices will be located alongside homes, new public squares and educational and leisure facilities, creating a revitalised centre for life and culture. New buildings will be arranged around welcoming gathering places. Carefully designed open spaces will provide the settings for street performances and public art. A high quality retail offering will attract new visitors and encourage them to spend time in the city. A programme of improvements to public spaces along Castle Mill Stream will encourage people to use this peaceful stretch of waterway whilst protecting its function as a wildlife corridor. Networks of cycle paths and pedestrian routes will encourage people out of their cars. The rich heritage of the West End will be brought to life through the development of historic quarters that link the area to its past. Driven by principles of civic and social responsibility, the vision of Oxford's West End regeneration is to create an environment worthy of a world-class city and one that future generations will be proud of. Further information about specific plans for the regeneration can be found on the key projects page.
