A scheme to regenerate the area of land lying between St Aldate's and Queen Street was explored by the West End Partnership and Oxford City Council in 2008-9. Proposals included a possible open-air shopping arcade from the St Aldate's Tavern archway through to Queen Street, along with student accommodation for up to 100 people. The scheme has now been rejected in favour of refurbishing the St Aldate's Chambers building for use by Oxford City Council employees, freeing up other Council property for sale or repurposing.
