HYTHE BRIDGE POCKET PARK

The Hythe Bridge Pocket Park improvement scheme was completed in 2009, helping to open up the Castle Mill Stream walkway as a convenient, safe and attractive route between north and south Oxford. These improvements, along with enhancements to nearby Fisher Row, are part of a series of initiatives to invest in Oxford Canal being funded by the West End Partnership.

Hythe Bridge Pocket Park is located within Oxford city centre's conservation area, with approximately two thirds owned by British Waterways and the remaining third, nearest the road, owned by Oxford City Council. The jointly funded improvement works included dredging the end of the canal; upgrading the street furniture; grass seeding and planting; replacing trees which were subject to basal decay with appropriate species (Silver Birch, Rowan and Hawthorn); repainting the bridge railings; and  carrying out general maintenance such as re-pointing and replacing brickwork.
