FISHER ROW
The Fisher Row improvement scheme was completed in 2010, opening up the Castle Mill Stream walkway as a convenient and attractive route between north and south Oxford. The project followed enhancements to Hythe Bridge Pocket Park and Lower Fisher Row Gardens as part of the West End Partnership's programme of improvements to public spaces along the central waterside corridor.
The Fisher Row area was difficult to access, overgrown and secluded. The improvement works included replacing the old footway surfacing with light coloured gravel; upgrading the street lighting; extending the existing steep steps; cleaning the stonework on the bridge; pruning overgrown foliage and replacing poor specimin trees; introducing new street furniture (seating, bins etc); and carrying out general maintenance such as replacing stonework and re-pointing.
